Things Hindu Describe Wrongly in English

vedas

Many Hindus unknowingly describe Hindu concept in English terms  wrongly. Majority of these mistakes happen because thee is no real  exact translation in English or other western languages . Keeping in mind that these words are coming from Sanskrit  which is most structured language know to Humans in current form.

Atma is not Soul

In Hindu Scriptures, “Atma” is part of the divine “Param-Atma” or supreme being and his loving form of Shri Krishna.  That is why when someone dies, people say he/she left the body. christian mind set is attached to body. That is why the pay respect to dead body. They conduct funeral and sometime keep bodies for hundreds of years, as if some miracle is going to happen. Hindu temples and traditions do not support keeping dead body, we do not support keeping any parts of body. For Hindus a living being is living because of “atma” if that  “Jeev-Atma” goes away remaining things are called “jaad” or non-living which is part of “Maya” or material world.

The relation between the Atma and the body is called LIFE. When the Atma is separated from the body it is the end of the life. But the Atma is eternal and primeval, on the other hand the body is mortal. Hence the relation called life is certainly “Maaya”.

Atma’s real relation is with the Supreme God , the two are eternally the same without any change. Our Atma is “Ansh” of supreme “Parm-Atma” or God.  That is why when someone dies people call he or she is gone and body is left. There is no gender of Atma

“Those who are seers of the truth have concluded that of the nonexistent [the material body] there is no endurance and of the eternal [the soul] there is no change. This they have concluded by studying the nature of both.” – Bhagavad Geeta

Avatar is not Birth

One more very bad translation and reference is “Mythology” specially when it is called Hindu Mythology. Almost every school in India  refers to Hindu Vedas as “Mythical” which is wrong. Mythology  as it implies is primarily based on Myths and fictions. Hindu Vedas are not imaginative. They prescribed in very details how we should live our lives and provide guidance and paths.

The relation between the Atma and the body is called LIFE. When the Atma is separated from the body it is the end of the life. But the Atma is eternal and primeval, on the other hand the body is mortal. Hence the relation called life is certainly “Maaya”.

Deity is not Idol

Many westerns  describe Hindus as Idol Worshipers, when the correct term is deity . Hindu worship “Swaroop” of the deity which is reflection of divinity  and our strong belief  that God exists everywhere. By having an image it helps a devotee to perform “Roop Dhyan” loving remembrance of Supreme God Krishn
